Rio de Janeiro's carnival is a great happening!

We have four days of festivities - from Saturday to Tuesday, usually

in February but sometimes it occurs in early March.

The "cariocas" ( this is the name which designates each one who is born in Rio de Janeiro State) begin to think about the fancy costumes they would put on to enjoy the parties two or three months before the parties! One of the favourites is the clown! :o)) Cute, huh?

High Summer, lots of tourists wandering around just waiting for the "escolas de samba"  performance.  "Escola", means school but I don't think this translation would fit the meaning of the whole

thing... "Samba" is a type of musical beat.

"School of samba" is a kind of a community association which have

from one to almost five thousands of members. People join a "school

of samba"  to have the opportunity to participate in an annual

iannual parade which is also a championship in which several schools

fight for the first place. This parade takes place along an avenue

called "Passarela do Samba".  On both sides of this avenue there

are  bleachers (unexpensives seats) and boxes from which people

watch and applaude the parade.

Can you imagine this crowd passing right under your eyes,

dancing and singing?

Can you feel just a little bit of what happens at "Passarela do Samba"?

The blend of colors, the special costumes, the music, the creativity of

alegoric cars makes this show an unforgetable experience!

Every school has a certain period of time to pass through the avenue
and it will be judge by several critics -  people chosen by their

expertise on each item on judgement which are: the costumes, the

music, the dancing, the cars, the percussion and so on.

Unfortunatelly I couldn't find out who is the author of the little animated
dancers, I will gladly give the credit if I manage to figure it out!
