Diana, the Princess of Whales

A brief biography of the Princess of Whales

1961 - 1997

Diana Frances Spencer, was born in Sandringham, Norfolk, England on

July, 1, 1966.  She grow up in the country area in a house called Althorp.

Daughter of Earl Edward Spencer and Frances Shand Kidd, Diana had three

siblings: Sarah, Jane and Charles. Her parents soon got separated and she was sent

to the most traditional English schools and then as a teenager she studied in Switzerland. She wasn't a very brilliant student, she would prefer sports and subjects related to arts. When she got back from Switzerland her father was a married man again. Diana decided to live on her own at South Kensington, London.

She worked out as a baby sitter and then as a teacher in a kindergarten. Princip

Charles and Diana met each other when she was still a child! They became friends

and when Diana was 19 she fell in love with him. Charles decided to get married

and he considered Diana a perfect bride as she was young, beautiful and  member

of a noble family. In February, 1981 he proposed to her , after three weeks the engagement was announced. They got married on July, 29, 1981

The marriage took place at Saint Paul's Cathedral and it is known as "the marriage of the century"! Around 750 thousand people saw the broadcasting of this royal event! Eleven months later, Princip William Arthur Philip Louis was born and then on, 1984, Diana gave birth to Princip Harry charles Albert David. She was a caring mother to her sons, she tried to spend as much time as she was allowed to with them travelling around, having fun and teaching them.

Unfortunatelly, the marriage didn't work out. Charles seemed to be envious of Diana's charism to atract

atention in all her public errands. She was the one

to be photographed, the one to be copied, her clothes and hair style influenced women all over the world. She went to  many foreigner countries  performing

her duties as a princess  and visiting hospitals, rehab centers, Africa and other

places where people were suffering. She embraced several charity causes like the

AIDS control etc. Meanwhile Charles was busy with his own afairs... On 1984

the marriage was seriously damaged as the rumours of Charles being involved

with  Camila Parker Bowles got stronger. Diana had a deep depression, bulimia

and even atempted to commit suicide.

On, August 1996 their divorce was finally official

Diana kept on her international duties as an unofficial British embassadress, her beautiful face continued to be printed on magazines and her trips continued to be covered by reporters from the most important newspapers and TV networks. Her first public relationship after the divorce was revealed to the world on 1997. Her new boyfriend was with Mr. Dodi Al Fayed, a very rich Arabian business man. On August Diana went to Paris to meet him...  After having dinner at the Ritz Hotel they left on a black Mercedes trying to  escape the journalists so used to follow her...  The car crashed in a tunnel... Diana died at the age of 36... The death of the Princess of Whales was a great shock, during 6 days London became a

pilgrimage point, her fans and admirers  were willing to pay their tributes to a

woman who was considered by them  as the "queen of their hearts"! They leaft

at Kensington  Palace flowers, letters and other gifts and some of them stayed up

to 11 hours in a row to sign the condolence book at St James Palace where her

body was being kept on vigil.

Diana was buried in an island on a lake at her family's country home

Elton John's song  played during the Princess' funeral

Candle in the wind

Goodbye England rose

may you grow in our hearts

you were the grace that place itself

where lives were torn apart

you called out to our country

and you whispered to those in pain

now you belong to Heaven

and the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life

like a candle in the wind

never fading with the sunset

when the rain set in

and your footsteps will always fall here

along England greenest hills

your candles burned out long before

your legend ever will

Loveliness we've lost

these empty days without your smile

this torch we'll always carry

for our nation's golden child

and even though we try

the truth brings us to tears

all our words cannot express

the joy brought us through the years

Goodbye England rose

may you ever grow in our hearts

you were the grace that place itself

where lives were torn apart

goodbye England rose

from a country lost without your soul

who'll miss the wings of your compassion

more than you will ever know
